PORTLAND — Walla Walla Community College completed the first two games of its three-game road trip successfully. Here Saturday the Warriors led 22-10 after one against Portland only to see Portland cut the Warrior lead to 35-31 at intermission.
“We struggled again early,” WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. “Our guards woke up at the half. Last night (Friday) it was our bigs and tonight it was our guards.”
The Warriors held Portland to 24 second-half points and took home a 79-55 road win.
Kate Ferenz led the Warriors with a double, double, 17 points and 10 rebounds. Shayna Allert, before going down with an ankle injury, fired home 16 for WWCC. The Warriors other guard, Kennedy Corrigan, also got into double digits as she pumped home 13.
On Friday, the Warriors dug themselves a 21-9 hole at Chemeketa only to fight back and get it tied at 31-31 at intermission before pulling away in the second half for a 76-60 victory.
“We figured it out as we weren’t playing well in the first half,” Hazeltine continued. “We went inside more and Tiffani (Dennis) had a career night.”
Dennis finished with 22 points. Tabitha Wellsandt posted a double, double with 11 rebounds and 14 points.
