What was a one-night event for six years has grown into Pink Week for the Walla Walla Community College Women’s Basketball Team.
The Warriors don pink uniforms to highlight cancer awareness for the games and raise funds for the Providence St. Mary Cancer Foundation Fund for Special Needs, said Head WWCC Women’s Basketball Coach/Assistant Athletic Director Bobbi Hazeltine.
Businesses donate gift baskets that the women’s team raffles off. Their goal is to top the $1,127 they presented in 2016 to Chris Garratt, executive director of Providence St. Mary Medical Center Breast Cancer Foundation.
“This year, we are able to celebrate this at back-to-back games, so we are calling it ‘Pink Week’” Bobbi said.
Watch for the team in pink uniforms at its Feb. 15 game vs. Yakima Valley College and on Feb. 18 at the game vs. Blue Mountain Community College. Games are played in the Dietrich Dome on the WWCC campus, 500 Tausick Way.
Gift baskets will be displayed during the women’s game at 6 p.m. and men’s at 8 p.m. Feb. 15 and women’s game at 2 p.m. and men’s at 4 p.m. Feb. 18.
