Berryman leads way in win over Yakima

The Walla Walla Community College women’s soccer team found the net early and often in a 9-1 rout of Northwest Athletic Conference East rival Yakima Valley on the Warriors’ pitch on Wednesday.

Haley Berryman kicked off her four-goal game with goals two, four (off an assist from Madison Hemenway) and 23 minutes (off Sam Filingeri-Oleson’s feed) in.

Hannah Thompson continued the Warrior onslaught at the 31-minute mark to make it 4-0 at halftime.

After the break, Yakima’s Biviana Rivera scored the Yaks’ lone goal two minutes into the second stanza.

Filingeri-Oleson (48-minute mark off Berryman’s assist), Tate Kautzky (52 minutes), Berryman (53), Thompson (77) and Jessica Garcia (86, off Berryman’s feed) rounded out the scoring.

Warrior goalkeeper Paige Kubista had two saves, while Yakima’s Addy Eckstrom had five while giving up the nine goals.

Walla Walla, now 8-2-1 in NWAC East play and 12-3-2 overall, go to North Idaho for a noon match on Saturday.
