ONTARIO, ORE — Walla Walla Community College scored four minutes in here Saturday in women’s NWAC soccer action. The Warriors went on to pad the lead with a goal in the 40th minute, and blanked Treasur Valley 2-0.
Haley Berryman scored both Warrior goals. She connected unassisted in the fourth minute. In the 40th, Nohemy Sanchez found Berryman and Berryman finished as the Warriors went to intermission up 2-0.
The Chukars were unable to penetrate the Warrior defense and Warrior goalie Paige Kubista came away with the shutout. Kubista finished with seven saves.
“We battled through a tough Treasure Valley team,” Warrior coach Jordan Hacker said. “We were able to string passes together to create scoring opportunities. It took the entire team.
“Paige (Kubista) made several fantastic saves to keep the shutout,” Hacker continued. “I’m proud of the team as it is a tough trip to Ontario, but we came away with three points (for the win).”
The match was the East Region opener for both squads. The Warriors improve to 1-0 in the East and 5-1-1 overall.
The Warriors travel to Wenatchee Wednesday for an East Region match up with the Knights.
