Warrior women continue to roll, shut out Chukars

Emily Thornton, Jennifer Inions, Klarissa Barajas and Sally Culig each scored a goal for Walla Walla Community College as the Warriors routed Treasure Valley, 4-0, in Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer action on WWCC’s Tausick Way pitch on Wednesday.

Freshman Warrior Madison Brownell assisted both Thornton and Culig on their scores, while sophomore Paige Kubista recorded her fifth shutout of the season in their first match against another East Region team.

Six games in, Walla Walla (5-0-1 overall, 1-0-0 in the East) has yet to surrender a goal. The Warrior defense denied Green River any shots on goal in a 4-0 win with freshman Danielle Dowd protecting the net on Aug. 25.

Kubista had to make two saves in the second half against Treasure Valley while the Warriors outshot the Chukars, 25-2.

Thornton put Walla Walla ahead in the 11th minute when she converted a pass from Brownell, and Inions doubled their lead midway through the first half with an unassisted goal.

Walla Walla began pulling away as Barajas scored unassisted in the 81st minute, and Brownell helped Culig make it a 4-0 game shortly before the end of regulation.

The Warriors return to action at home Saturday when they take on winless Blue Mountain at noon.

The Timberwolves are still looking for their first goal of the season after three games. They lost their only regional match, 11-0, at Columbia Basin on Wednesday.
