Walla Walla Community College’s women’s soccer team could not have picked a worse time to suffer its first loss of the 2017 season.
WWCC, which finished the regular season as Northwest Athletic Conference Eastern Region champions with a perfect 14-0 record and with an overall mark of 18-0-1, fell to visiting Tacoma, 3-2, in an NWAC quarterfinal mach Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.
Midfielder Isabelle Creighton, the second-leading scorer in the NWAC, recorded a hat trick for the Titans, who will take a 15-5-2 record into conference semifinal action next weekend. Creighton now has 24 goals this season.
Creighton got Tacoma on the board in the ninth minute of the match, and added a penalty kick at the 14-minute mark to stake the Titans to a 2-0 lead.
Walla Walla’s Haley Wammock cut the Titans’ lead in half with a goal in the 18th minute that was assisted by Dominique Velazquez.
Creighton put Tacoma back up by two when she headed in a Jolene Kvinsland corner kick in the 62nd minute.
The Warriors’ Jessica Garcia drew the home team within one off a Madison Brownell assist at the79-minute mark.
However, WWCC got no closer.
The Titans outshot Walla Walla, 6-5, and booted four corner kicks to the Warriors’ two.
