Warrior women win 10th match in a row

YAKIMA — Forwards Hannah Thompson and Klarissa Barajas tallied first-half goals here Saturday as Eastern Region-leading Walla Walla Community College posted its 10th straight victory, a 2-0 triumph over Northwest Athletic Conference rival Yakima Valley.

The Warriors improved to 9-0 in the East and 13-0-1 overall.

Midfielder Sally Culig assisted on the tallies by Thompson and Barajas that occurred in the 25th and 36th minutes, respectively.

“We have a lot of girls sick and a ton of girls played through sickness,” WWCC coach Jordan Hacker said. “The depth of our team came out (Saturday). We played well for a majority of the game and found a way to win.

“Sally had a fantastic game,” Hacker said. “She really sparked us going forward.”

Both teams were credited with eight shots in the match. The Warriors put five of their shots on goal compared to three for YVC.

“Our defense played extremely well,” Hacker said. “Our back line did a great job keeping YVC in check.

“Chelsea Marozik and Demeree McLean have been solid all year at center back,” Hacker said. “Emily Thornton, Nicole Macaluso, and Haley Wammock all played outside back. These five played an exceptional game.”

Saturday’s conquest completed a WWCC season sweep of YVC. Walla Walla knocked off Yakima, 2-1, at Warrior Field on Sept. 27.

The Warriors continue region play Wednesday at Blue Mountain.
