Wohl’s second half goal lifts Warriors to victory

Taylen Wohl scored in the 61st minute to lift the Walla Walla Community College women’s soccer team over Treasure Valley, 1-0, in an NWAC East Region match here on Saturday.

 

WWCC goalie Danielle Dowd recorded a shutout win with one save, and the second-place Warriors (11-3-1 overall, 8-2-1 in the East) stayed one point behind a  victorious North Idaho in regional standings.

 

North Idaho (8-1-2 in East) defeated Yakima Valley, 2-0, on Saturday.

 

The Warriors will stay here for their next match, hosting third-place Spokane (7-1-3 in the East) on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

WWCC will take in five-game winning streak into the Spokane match.

 

The Warriors outshot Treasure Valley, 16-1, but failed to hit the back of the net until Wohl converted an assist from Klarissa Baraja midway through the second half.

 

Treasure Valley goalie Hannah Simpson ended up needing to make eight saves, including six before halftime.

 

WWCC also had a 13-2 edge in corner kicks.
