Women edge Knights, 1-0

WENATCHEE — Haley Berryman scored her ninth goal of the season Wednesday afternoon and it proved to be the difference as the Walla Walla Community College women’s soccer team eked out a 1-0 victory over Wenatchee Valley.

WWCC goalie Paige Kubista made eight saves in the match while fashioning the shutout, the team’s sixth this season.

Wednesday’s win improved the Warriors’ records to 2-0 in the Northwest Athletic Conference’s East Division and 6-1-1 overall.

“Today was an interesting day,” Walla Walla coach Jordan Hacker said. “At times we played extremely well. At other times, we were making Wenatchee look like a far better team than they are.

“We did not respect our opponent as much as we should have,” Hacker said. “We did not come into the game with the same intensity and relentless attitude we need to win a lot of games this year. But I am proud of the girls because we found a way to win when things were not going our way.”

The Warriors travel to Spokane Saturday for a match with the defending NWAC champion Sasquatch.
