Walla Walla Community College sophomore Haley Berryman assisted teammate Jessica Garcia on an early goal, and then netted a hat trick, as the Warriors ran off with a 6-0 victory over Columbia Basin in a Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match on the WWCC pitch on Wednesday.
Walla Walla (7-2-1 overall, 3-1-0 in the East) moved up into a second-place tie with an idle North Idaho, and kept pace with league-leading Spokane. The unbeaten Sasquatch crushed Blue Mountain, 12-2.
Meanwhile, Berryman’s 12 goals so far this season moved her up into a tie for the conference lead with Molly Joyce of Clark College in the South region. Joyce tallied one Wednesday in the Penguins’ victory over Southwest Oregon.
Walla Walla freshman goalie Paige Kubista recorded a shutout without any saves as the Warriors dominated Columbia Basin.
Berryman helped Garcia put the Warriors ahead four minutes into the match, and WWCC only added to its lead.
Berryman scored her first goal at the 11th minute, and then Garcia assisted freshman Madison Hemenway on another four minutes later for a 3-0 lead.
Berryman found the back of the net twice shortly following halftime, and then freshman Erin Leseberg capped the scoring at the 71st minute.
The Warriors next play Friday afternoon at Blue Mountain in Pendleton.
