Warrior Softball Puts Together Impressive Weekend Against NWAC South Opponents
Walla Walla, WA - The Walla Walla Community College Softball team hosted two NWAC South opponents this weekend on the campus of WWCC. The Warriors earned a tough doubleheader split on Saturday against a quality Mt. Hood squad, before sweeping Chemeketa on Sunday to go 3-1 on the weekend. Walla Walla now sits at 5-2 overall and carries a 3-game win streak into their pre-season tournament next weekend.
Walla Walla 4 vs. Mt. Hood 10 (Saturday - Game 1)
The Mt. Hood Saints entered the game 10-0 on the season and used a 6-run 4th inning to keep their perfect season alive with a 10-4 victory over the Warriors. Faith Hickman went 2-2 in the game, including a double and a first inning 2-run home run that gave the Warriors an early lead. Kaydence Hector and Tyra Price both had doubles and 1 RBI each in the opening-game loss.
Walla Walla 8 vs. Mt. Hood 7 (Saturday - Game 2)
The Mt. Hood undefeated season didn't remain for much longer as in the second half of the Saturday doubleheader, the Warriors handed the Saints their first loss of the year. Walla Walla used a 4-run first inning where every hitter in the lineup came to the plate to jump out to an early lead, and then added 3 more runs in the 4th inning to again distance themselves on the scoreboard. However, Mt. Hood continued to punch back until in the 6th inning, Faith Hickman delivered the decisive blow with a go-ahead solo home run, her second of the day. Hickman finished the game with 2 hits and 2 RBI's, while Tyra Price and Ella Sams also added 2 hits of their own. Aisling Giguiere was nearly perfect in the circle in relief to earn the win, pitching 2 hitless innings and striking out 1 Saint.
Walla Walla 5 vs. Chemeketa 4 (Sunday - Game 1)
7 different Warriors registered a hit in the offensive effort to help WWCC earn a win in the opening game of Sunday's doubleheader. Hailee Nash had the big swing of the day, a 2-RBI double in the 4th inning that helped WWCC erase a 2-0 deficit in the middle innings. Paige Richardson and Aisling Giguiere combined to give up 8 hits and 4 earned runs in the circle, with Giguiere earning the win, her second in as many games.
Walla Walla 8 vs. Chemeketa 7 (Sunday - Game 2)
In Game 4 of the weekend, Walla Walla earned another 1-run victory in exciting fashion, this time with a walkoff RBI double by Kaydence Hector in the bottom of the 7th inning. Juliana Berinobis was 2-3 with a double in the game, while Maddy Schumacher and Ella Sams joined Berinobis and Hector as Warriors with doubles in the win. Aisling Giguiere also added 2 RBI's on a single in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Paige Richardson earned a win in the circle with the walkoff, pitching 1 inning and striking out 2.

Walla Walla will head to Pasco, WA next weekend for a tournament. They will open the weekend up on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM against Umpqua.
