Warrior Softball Earns Three Run-Rule Victories in NWAC East Action
Walla Walla, WA - The Walla Walla Community College Softball team had a big week last week as they faced off with Spokane, the other program atop the NWAC East standings, on Friday, before hosting Big Bend on Saturday. The Warriors dropped the first game of Friday's doubleheader to the Sasquatch, 7-3, before rebounding and winning their remaining 3 games of the week via the run-rule. In those 3 games, WWCC outscored their opponents 34-1!
Walla Walla 3 vs. Spokane 7 (Friday - Game 1)
Spokane used a 5-run 5th inning and some strong pitching to claim the opening game of the doubleheader against the Warriors. Kaydence Hector and Emi Pruneda each recorded 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 1 stolen base. Maddy Schumacher tallied Walla Walla's lone extra-base hit in the game, a double in the 3rd inning that led to WWCC's first run of the week. Tyra Price added the Warriors' 6th hit of the game to go with a walk.
Walla Walla 10 vs. Spokane 0 (Friday - Game 2)
Aisling Giguiere pitched a gem and 7 Warriors recorded a hit in the back half of Friday's doubleheader, leading to a dominant 10-0 victory over Spokane to split the day. Giguiere pitched a complete game, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits and striking out 4. She would also help out her own cause, going 2-2 at the plate with 2 RBI's, 2 runs scored, and a walk. For the second straight game, Kaydence Hector recorded a multi-hit game, finishing the day with a 2-3 effort including a double and 2 runs scored. Juliana Berinobis added a double and 2 RBI's, while Emi Pruneda and Faith Hickman also slugged doubles.
Walla Walla 9 vs. Big Bend 1 (Saturday - Game 1)
Paige Richardson was back in the circle for Walla Walla to kick off Saturday's action and she set the tone for WWCC, resulting in a 9-1 run-rule win. Richardson's complete game included only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 6. Offensively, the Warriors totalled 7 hits, led by the multi-hit efforts of Kaydence Hector and Ella Sams. Hector scored 3 runs to go with her 2 hits, and Sams also drove in 3 runs and scored a run of her own in the game. Juliana Berinobis was 1-3 with 2 RBI's and Anna Delarosa added a 2-RBI triple in the 4th inning as part of a 5-run frame for WWCC.
Walla Walla 15 vs. Big Bend 0 (Saturday - Game 2)
The Warriors ended the week with a bang, sweeping the doubleheader over Big Bend with a 15-0 victory in which WWCC out-hit the Vikings 17-3. Juliana Berinobis led the charge for Walla Walla, finishing the contest 4-4 with 1 double, 1 home run, 2 stolen bases, and 3 RBI's. Faith Hickman led the team with 5 RBI's along with a double and home run, while Kaydence Hector also recorded a double and home run while driving in 3 runs. Maddy Schumacher and Aisling Giguiere each hit doubles and Kendal Crawford added a triple in the blowout. Aisling Giguiere held down the Viking offense in the circle, allowing 0 runs and only 3 hits while striking out 4 in the complete game performance.
What's next?
Walla Walla will head to Yakima this Saturday and Sunday for the NWAC Crossover. On Saturday they will face Clackamas at 10:00 AM and Everett at 12:30 PM. Sunday's action will see the Warriors taking on Southwestern Oregon at 10:00 AM before wrapping up the weekend against Clark at 12:30 PM. All games will be played at Yakima's Gateway Sports Complex.
