Big Win for Warriors in NWAC Tournament Opener
Magnuson Leads Warriors in Win Against Centralia
Walla Walla, WA. - The Warriors took a quick trip down the freeway Thursday afternoon to land at Columbia Basin College for the opening game of the 2024-2025 NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament, which saw them squaring off with the Trailblazers of Centralia College for the second time this year. In their first matchup, Coach Hazeltine and the Warriors found themselves in a back-and-forth game with Centralia. Separated by only 4 points at halftime, Hadley Fraas and Brielle Magnuson lead the way with 20 and 27 points, respectively, to finish off the 11-point victory for the Warriors.
Fast-forward to game one of the NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament and the Warriors found themselves in a different position early on against the Trailblazers. Lead by Sintia Varela netting two 3-point shots, the Warriors took a 9-point lead into the second quarter of play after only allowing two Centralia field-goals in the first. Centralia answered back in the second quarter but the Warriors dug their heels in and put together a 20-point quarter of their own on the backs of Addy Laible and Brielle Magnuson. In six minutes of action, Addy Laible went 3-3 from the field and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Coming out of halftime with a 33-15 lead, the Warriors took the wind out of Centralia's sails with a 18-3 third quarter. Brielle Magnuson scored 8 of her 22 points on the night in the third on 4-6 shooting while Addy Laible put together another 5 rebound quarter and another 4 of her 12 points on the evening.
The Warriors finished off their 39-point victory over the Trailblazers, lead by Brielle Magnuson who scored 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Addy Laible had a big impact on the game as well, scoring 12 points and adding 22 rebounds, 8 of which were offensive.
Game two for the Warriors will be Friday, March 7th, 2025 at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, WA against the winner of Clackamas and Skagit Valley at 4:00PM.
